During Years 3 and 4 the children are mainly
class taught by their form teacher thus providing a stable base,
but in Physical Education, Information Technology, Music and French
(from Year 3) the children begin to benefit from the expertise of
specialist teachers. This extends further in Years 5 and 6 thus
encouraging the children confidently to interact with different
specialist teachers.
The curriculum throughout the Preparatory School is a balance of
subjects as outlined by the National Curriculum. The teaching of
Mathematics and English has always had priority within the school
and Numeracy and Literacy Hours have further enhanced our traditional
approach.
Although we have adopted the National Curriculum we are in the fortunate
position of not being totally bound by it. Delivery of the curriculum
is achieved in a formal way, the small size of our classes facilitating
teaching which embraces each individual.
Our
curriculum, which includes the three National Curriculum core subjects
of English, Mathematics and Science, also comprises:
Subject
History
Geography
Art
Information Technology
